To celebrate its 80th birthday in style, Penguin will be launching a new range of 80 short classics for just 80p each!
Available from the 26th February, the titles in the Little Black Classics will include a diverse range of short stories, poems, historical accounts and much more. The collection includes many renowned authors but with less well-known titles, such a Jane Austen’s The Beautifull Cassandra and Oscar Wildes’ Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime. Some unexpected authors, such as composer Wolfgang Mozart, are also featured in the collection. Other writings include famous political and historical accounts such as The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, and The Great Fire of London by Samuel Pepys.
Freelance designer, Mathieu Triay, created a stunning interactive website for the Little Black Classic collection, bringing the publishing industry into the digital age. The site allows you to ‘Spin the Penguin’, by clicking on the penguin or shaking your phone, to randomly select one of the 80 books. Each title is accompanied by a short quote and numbered in the collection. Have a play around on the website here.
All the titles are now available to pre-order on Amazon and Foyles, with links to each specific title straight from the website. Some titles are also available for 49p in a Kindle Edition including John Keats’ The Eve of St Agnes, Edgar Allen Poes’ The Tell-Tale Heart, and many others.
